The Society of St Agnes is linked with ECC:NA through the Ecumencal Catholic Communities of USA and UK and its Sister Church, the ECC+C in England. St Agnes is committed to creating a Christ-centered community for Catholic women in discipleship in which to come together to better understand God's truth and love and demonstrate our faith through our actions.
We provide opportunities for women of all ages to discover and experience in a deeper sense, the heart and mind of Jesus Christ revealing the Word of God. We strive to transfer this into the relevance of faithful female discipleship in today's changing and rather complicated world. So many women have a burning heart to reach out to all who need them and express gospel concern - but are often thwarted by the patriarchial dominance of the Church - mainly irrespective of denomination but predominantly the Roman Church. Please don't mistake us for a radical anti-male group, we do not exclude the men in our lives and never will - you will see them throughout the website and in our ministerial lives - in total support of us.
"Do not be comformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds..." Romans 12 Theologian Dorothy Irvin, who has a pontifical doctorate in Catholic studies from the University of Tübingen, Germany, with specialization in Bible, ancient Near-Eastern studies and archaeology, has found archaeologicalevidence that women were priests.
I travelled with her to Rome, Naples and North Africa. We visited catacombs
and churches. We studied frescoes, mosaics and tombstones. I have seen
firsthand frescoes of a woman at the altar celebrating Mass and women
celebrating Eucharist. I have seen the Roman mosaic of four women ministers,
including a woman bishop, which attests to a continuous succession in church
office from Mary through Praxedis and Pudentiana to Theodora.
Above her head is her title, "Episcopa," with the feminine ending, meaning a
bishop who is a woman.
Jesus treated women and men as equals and partners in ministry. Among his
disciples were many women. Mary Magdalene, the first to encounter the risen
Christ, was commissioned by Christ to be the "Apostle to the Apostles." St.
Paul called Junia "an outstanding apostle." In 1976, the Pontifical Biblical
Commission concluded that there is no biblical reason to prohibit women's
ordination.

St Agnes is a Faithful Society created, formed, authorised and governed by women for women. However men are most welcome too! We are here for our sisters in Christ who feel they have no voice within the male dominated world of Priesthood and who want to return to the simple world of Christian/Catholic Mission and Ministry. You may have an area of personal or community concern you feel drawn to serve in - and simply don't know where to start. Please go through our website (you will see images from different influences, eras and denominations) and look at it with an open heart - as Christ would and does. Remember; He called us too.
